Sikkim was ruled by the Sikkimese Dynasty who look their descent from a fifteenth century Tibetan prince. The people of Sikkim are a conglomeration of many races the predominant being the Lapechas, Nepalese and Tibetans.
Unlike in many other parts of the Himalayas, Sikkim's trekking trails are not over crowded or it is defaced due to tremendous negative impact through berserk human development or uncontrolled tourism promotion. Sikkims mountains and culture go together providing trekkers with best of natural beauties as well the rich cultural heritage. High altitude lakes are to be seen while in every trekking trail.
Yaks add to the color of trek- in Sikkim cross-bred of Yak and Cow is used as pack animal, which is called Dzos. They are unfriendly and ferocious but in their own way very simple and not demanding.
Birdwatching
Sikkim also offers some good views of birds. It is the most suitable destination for the bird lovers. Unlike in most parts of the Himalayas, Sikkim provides birds life in mere 7300sq.kms ranging in 200 meters to 8848 meters of height that is in comparison to non.
One can spend hours in meadows or ravine, which provides an ample opportunity to relax and add to birds count. 4000 species of flowering plants, 180 lakes, numerous rivers & streams give a good support to 600 species of birds in this tiny land locked area. |
