Cherrapunjee is better known for its degree of rainfall in every year. This hill station measures the highest amount of rainfall in all over the world. It is also the frequently visited tourist spot in North East region. Situated 56 Kms from Shillong and 1300 meters above sea level, known all over the world as the rainiest place on the planet.

A pleasant drive to see roaring water falls leaping into deep gorges, including the famous Nohsngithiang falls is certainly an ever memorable visual treat. The lovely town is also famous for its limestone caves, orange, and honey, headquarter of Syiem of Sohra and a Center of the Khasi Culture and literature. The oldest Theological College in this region is located here, established by the Welsh Presbyterian Missionaries in 1888, known as Cherrapunjee Theological College.

Khasi Hills is the center of Meghalaya.It is divided into two parts, the east khasi hills and the west khasi Hills.It is situated at an altitude of 1,496 metres, above sea level. Romantic and picturesque with abundance of nature's gifts, Shillong is described as 'Scotland of the East' because of its striking similarity with that of the Scottish highlands and has been attracting indigenous and foreign tourists for decades.

Shillong peak lying 10 Kms. from the city, offer a panoramic view of the scenic country side and is also the highest point in the district as well as in the State. In the evening , the city lights below appears like a star studded abyss.

Ward's lake is the heart of the state. There is a arched bridge over the lake. It is an ideal place to visit and is been visited by large number of visitors during the year. The lake is an ideal picnic spot, popular for garden walks and boating facilities.

The third oldest golf course in India . Developed in 1889 as a nine hole course, it was later converted to 18 holes in 1924. It is termed as the 'Gleneagle of the East' by the United States Golf Association Library and Museum.

Meghalaya offers a number of waterfalls;they are like Spread Eagle Falls , Bishop and Beadon Falls , Sweet Falls , Crinoline Falls , Elephant Falls . Spread Eagle Falls is located on the outskirts of the city. The Eagle Falls looks like an eagle with wings spread out. Elephant Falls located about 10 km from Shillong is an exquisitely beautiful waterfall. Bishop Falls , Sweet Falls, Crinoline Falls are beautiful falls and most suitable for picnic.
