Camel Festival is organized by the Department of Rajasthan Tourism at Bikaner every year. January is the right month for a desert spree and Bikaner is the place where one can see Ship of the Desert (Camel).

The Camel Festival begins with a colourful procession of bedecked camels against the red sandstone backdrop of the Junagarh Fort. C amel fair is also an excuse for a big funfair.

Circuses, magic shows, carousels and a big wheel are installed near the fair grounds. The fair ends with 4 days of a more official part including camel races, horse races and a cattle beauty contest. All these activities take place in front of a very attentive audience, in the middle of the bright colours of turbans and saris.

The camels display amazing footwork, dancing gracefully to the slightest direction of their trainers. Bejeweled necks, jingling anklets and long, lanky camel shadow on dusky sands cast a magical spell. Hundreds of tourist, thousands of localities and dignitaries revel in this man-and-animal affair.
